About Alwa Foundation Resouce Centre

Alwa Foundation Resource Centre(AFRC) is a Community Based Resource Centre (CBRC), not for profit that currently provides library and Information Communications Technology (ICT) support to primary and secondary schools in Alwa Sub County; for the improvement of literacy and learning for primary and secondary school learners, and teachers. We are located in Alwa Sub County in Kaberamaido district.

Another key strategy we implement is reaching out to out – of school vulnerable girls many of whom are victims of early pregnancies and single motherhood, with livelihood skills to improve their social economic wellbeing. We use this window to provide health information and referral services that include family planning, antenatal care, health facility delivery, malaria prevention and treatment for themselves and their babies.

Mission

“Bridging the literacy gap, one child at a time”

Vision

“Building a generation that is literate, Self-reliant and Innovative”.

Core Values

Integrity, Innovation, Team work and  Accountability

What we do

  • We currently provide library and Information Communications Technology (ICT) support to primary and secondary schools in Alwa Sub County; for the improvement of literacy and learning for primary and secondary school learners, and teachers. Our services target children and adolescents who are enrolled in school and those out of school. In the category of those enrolled in primary schools, we specifically target children aged 8 years and above by enabling them to access the library and ICT services at the foundation following the designated time tables drawn for different schools. We give them personal time for revision and access to books, and show them videos containing entrepreneurship and life skills, and health messages

  • We implement reaching out to out – of school vulnerable girls many of whom are victims of
early pregnancies and single motherhood, with livelihood skills to improve their social economic wellbeing. We use this window to provide health information and referral services that include family planning, antenatal care,
health facility delivery, malaria prevention and treatment for themselves and
    their babies.

  • We also engage the community members through dialogues; specifically, parents of the out of school youth and young mothers who come for skilling at the foundation; in talks for positive thinking and attitudes towards their children. We specifically encourage them to support their children morally and materially to enable their successful completion of the training. We also encourage them to enroll their children back to school where possible for a brighter future for them. Our intention of mobilizing them to come to foundation is to provoke their attitudes towards re enrolling their children to school as they see other children utilize the resource centre; and to enable them see and appreciate the skills their children are gaining so that they can encourage them to finish the skilling offered.

  •  Other Services include; Conducting ICT clubs in schools, Events organization, Videography and Stenography
